Rapper and songwriter Tyga’s new signature shoe with Brooklyn-based art collective MSCHF is an unlawful knockoff of Vans’ classic kicks, according to the lawsuit filed in the Eastern District of New York on Thursday.

Vans says rapper Tyga’s ‘Wavy Baby’ shoes blatantly and unmistakably copied their ‘Old Skool’ Skate Shoes as it correlates to the marketing, advertising, and product packaging for its Wavy Baby shoe.

It highlights the similarities that run from the logos used on the shoes to the packaging they come in. Vans claims the Old Skool’s trade dress, the trademark about its physical appearance, is being willfully violated by MSCHF’s shoe.

The lawsuit contains a photo to expose the similarities between the famous Old Skool silhouette and the Wavy Baby, a sneaker loosely based upon the Vans design.

This is not the first time MSCHF has been at the center of a controversy. In June 2021, the company came under fire for its "Satan shoes" promoted by another rapper Lil Nas X - which was a reiteration of Nike sneakers with a few drops of rapper's blood inside the sole.
