Zero skateboards flow skateboarder Motic Panugalinog's mother has been diagnosed with cancer, and they needed medical assistance.
When a sudden injury or illness strikes, deciding where to go for immediate medical care can be stressful and confusing.
Nay Mapalo, a self-described “musician and friend” of Panugalinog, has now launched a GoFundMe campaign to give the Panugalinog family a financial cushion during this difficult time to help cover medical costs.
He explains: "Hi, my name is Nay, and I'm fundraising for Motic Panugalinog's mom's cancer treatment. Motic is an incredible skater from Cebu, Phillippines that I found through a friend reposting on Instagram."
"The first videos I saw were him nailing broken skateboards together to make new decks, screwing trucks into trash can lids, and skating pieces of 2x4 in his living room," Nay said. "Fast forward, and he's been picked up as a flow rider for Zero, winning comps around the country, and continuing to put Cebu on the map for skating."
Nay added. "Yesterday, he put up a story at 3 am, holding his mom who looked very fatigued in his lap, a few hours later they were singing to her as she lay on the couch holding a photo of Jesus. I got worried and reached out. Motic told me it was cancer and they needed help to pay for the treatments."
"After a year where Super typhoon Odette ravaged the Philippines and covid continued to worsen, I can't imagine going through this. Let's keep the Bayanihan spirit alive and help Motic's Pamilya. Nay explained. "All of the funds raised will go directly to Motic and his family to help with this process."
