Red Bull Unveil Margie Didal’s Training Facility in Cebu Philippines
The Philippines' local hero Margielyn Didal has an impressive all-around skateboarding style that made her win the “Fastest Feet in Asia” and “Styles For Miles” on Asia Skate Awards. She also became the 2020 Asia Skater of The Year.
Before all of the awards and medals she received from skate contests, Didal was just a small-town skater girl from Cebu Philippines. With nowhere to skate and train to learn new tricks as the only skatepark in Cebu Concave was closing down, Didal decided to pursue her passion with no excuses of being one of the best skaters in the Philippines.
The "Women’s Battle At The Berrics" finalist is the key figure in the upcoming 2021 skateboarding Olympics, and she needed her private training facility where she could focus on working on her impeccable abilities to execute her tricks properly. With the help of her sponsor, Red Bull has helped the ASOTY make her dream skatepark come to life.
"Due to the pandemic, Margie was not able to train. She was limited to a mini ramp that was built in her house to help her." The Red Bull media network specialist said. "In order to support her, we built her a training facility in Cebu."
Since Didal has experience training at Red Bull's facilities in the United States, the champ designed the facility herself. The project was supported by the NSA and provided additional input on the structures.
The plan was completed early this year and has provided Didal and the national skateboard team the opportunity to continue to strive in a safe and enclosed environment.
The surprising outcome will not be possible without Didal together with Boots Brandon and her coach Dani Bautista, as they designed and built the skatepark during the lockdown in 2020 with Red Bull's blessings.
