Professional skateboarder Tommy Sandoval has been battling an injured knee recently after filming a 180 down a double set. He only announced his pending surgery and all of the financial hardships today via his official Instagram account.
"Hello Instagram, friends and family. As some people may have noticed I have not been posting as much skate clips or been very active on social media." Sandoval wrote. "While on a recent filming mission I ended up injuring my knee (see attached clips) resulting in a torn meniscus."
"After jumping thru hoops and dealing w insurance I made a conscious decision to to go with a specialist that has worked on many professional athletes, unfortunately my insurance does not cover this." He said.
He added. "Instead of waiting extended periods and hoping for my insurance to get me in months down the line, I have decided the most efficient way to get back on board is to go with a specialist that knows and understands exactly what an athlete needs to extend their careers."
"This gives me the confidence and motivation to know I am getting the best care possible and will be able to get back to what I do best and to continue working on all the projects I have in the works! Now the hard part for me, I am not very good at asking for help. "He continued. But I realize this is not just for me."
"This is for my family and our well being as a whole. I will be recovering for a few months unable to work and contribute my bit and piece to our situation. I have taken on extra jobs to make ends meet because I’m sure most of us know that the industry has changed a lot over the years and things are definitely not what they used to be."
"It’s not the easiest thing for me to come to terms with but this is where I’m at and I’m genuinely asking from the bottom of my heart for anyone who is willing to help us to please donate or contribute my plan is to give back in whatever I possibly can to those who donate or contribute in our time of need." Sandoval explained.
He continued. "I want to let everybody know that the feeling of gratitude and the support will not go unnoticed, it is my goal to give back to those who have helped me and my family in our time of need. Thank you for taking a minute to hear me out and once again thank you to everyone who has already supported me over all these years - fans, friends, families and companies."
As of press time, fans have contributed more than $16,211 of the campaigns’ $20,000 goal. We understand times are tough but donate here if you’re able. We continue to wish Sandoval all the best!
